Working in Transit NXT – Internal Repetitions

How to translate internal repetitions

Internal repetitions are identical segments in within your translation project. To save time, you only need to translate the first occurrence, and Transit then populates the remaining occurrences with your translation.

To do this, first open all the files in the project (“open globally”) and then make sure that your translation settings are correct:

Next, go to the Processing ribbon and click on Internal repetitions On/Off to activate Internal Repetitions Mode:

Click on Next to go to the first internal repetition. Check if there are any Fuzzy Matches or hits under Dual Concordance, and translate the segment.

Confirm the segment (ALT+Insert).

Transit will then apply your translation to all the repeated segments in the open language pairs. You now have two options:

1.    Work through all the internal repetitions in your project, confirming as you go along. You can use the Navigate drop-down menu to move between internal repetition segments as shown here (with shortcuts):

2.    Click on Translate Group. This will automatically apply the translation you used for the first occurrence to all the identical segments in the project. The cursor will then move to the first occurrence of the next group (“set”) of internal repetitions. We recommend setting your user preferences so that Transit asks you if you want to apply your translation to all internal repetitions in your project:

You will then see a pop-up when you confirm the first occurrence of an internal repetition:

Click on Yes to confirm all the occurrences in that group and move on to the next set of internal repetitions.

When you have processed all the internal repetitions in the project and the cursor has reached the end of the last file, exit Internal Repetition Mode by clicking again on Processing>Internal Repetitions>On/Off.
