The Translator’s Summer at STAR
The holiday season is in full swing… and that brings with it the matter of how to balance your work with other plans. Here are some tips for a successful summer as a freelance translator with STAR:
1. Let us know about any holiday time you have planned. If your working hours or daily capacity are different, tell us. That way, your reputation for being available when you say you are is maintained.
2. Be realistic about how much work you can get done each day. Holiday time often means different routines, distractions, and unexpected changes of plan. Hot weather will also affect your concentration.
3. Make the most of the opportunities that arise. If lots of people are on holiday and you are available to work, you are likely to receive exciting new projects and boost your reputation with Project Managers.
4. Don’t cut corners! Follow all the usual steps to avoid unnecessary mistakes as you work. Take extra care with spelling and grammar checks, formatting and markups. Create a checklist of everything you need to do before delivering your work and follow it closely.
Finally, make any holiday time count! Translation can be mentally taxing, and everyone needs some downtime. Disconnect, give your brain a rest, and enjoy! You will feel the benefit on your return to work.
