They look alike, but have different meanings – Part 2
- Uncomparable VS incomparable
Saying that two things are uncomparable mean they cannot be compared, whereas talking about something incomparable means that it is matchless, so great that any comparison is impossible to make.
- Carat VS Karat
You may thing karat is just a variation of carat, but there’s in fact a slight difference between these two. Indeed, carat is a unit of weight for precious gems (like diamonds, for example), while karat is a unit of purity for gold.
- Precedent VS precedence
Precedent is often used in a legal sense, and refers to an example used to justify later similar occurences e.g. “A landmark decision that set a legal precedent”.
Precedence refers to one thing taking priority over another.
