Its amazing just how much work you do. When you sit down and review a year and count up the projects, languages and things you do the facts stand for themselves.
We’ve compiled a video of STAR’s performance last year – hope you like it.
This time we’ve chosen a word for the hi-tech people out there, a little out of the ordinary.
Hard Disk Drive in Irish is “Tiomántán Diosca Chrua”.
Literally this means, a Drive of a Disk that is Hard. Its an interesting part of the Irish language and any for that matter that translation can sometimes be difficult as the order, phrasing and structure of the text/words can be different. Translation is never a one to one match, which is the reason it is important to always use professional translators.
If you’d like us to add a word to our “Focail of the day” series drop us a line or comment on our blog, facebook or twitter account. We’ll do our best to add new words as they are requested.
We’re delighted to tell you that STAR has been nominated for the Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards 2012. Our followers will know over the last 6 months we’ve been blogging, facebooking and twittering like mad to tell everyone about translation and language. Its been really hard work, but great fun too.
Videos: We’ve a couple of great videos we produced including our learn to speak Irish videos. See our Youtube Channel.
The culmination of all the hard work is that we are nominated in 4 separate categories in the Bord Gáis Energy awards.

How to say “Can I have a pint of Beer please?” in Irish
Patrick’s Day is coming soon so those sentences will be useful to some of you.
Damian Scattergood teaches you common Irish words and sentences. In this video we learn how to say “Can I have a pint of Beer please?” in Irish.
Each day, spread your love of the language : learn and use a few irish words. It is always nice to hear – even if you can only say “Hello” and “Goodbye”.
Have a look at our other Irish Word of the Day on YouTube and share them:
We have to support this great advertising campaign for “Hands only CPR” by the British heart campaign. Its the latest campaign to show how to save someone’s life using CPR.
What I really like is that it uses a number of systems to teach the system. Audio and Video, and hits you with toe tapping music and Vinny Jones from the celebrity site to get the message home.
Visual Information can be amazingly informative and interesting. The other day I got to see this incredible video from Hal Rosling as part of the Joy of Stats BBC series.
It shows visually how 200 countries evolved in economic terms over the last 200 years. Interestingly the world is getting richer through globalisation but there are still some gaps between regions Asia/Europe and Middle East. There are even some interesting differences between regions in the same country.
For people interested in global economics and how the world is changing this is a must see video. Another great job by the BBC.
Just reviewing the Formula 2 results and Christopher Zanella the driver sponsored by STAR Group in Switzerland is leading the championship.
Whilst he is still a newcomer to the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship, Zanella has already won more races than any other driver. This is a great achievement. Right now he leads the championship standings.
The 21-year-old secured his maiden F2 podium at Silverstone. Amazingly he won from starting 10th on the grid.
This was closely followed in Magny-Cours with his first pole and back-to-back wins.
