Unicode Conversion UTF-8 UTF-16

What a long title. However if you’ve ever damaged a string in your code (HTML/JAVA/XML) and need to covert or escape it again here is a great tool that will do the job quickly and efficiently for you.

For Unicode Conversion:

http://people.w3.org/rishida/tools/conversion/

You have the option of working from Mixed character strings, UTF8 and UTF16.  It also will convert and show escaped characters for Javascript and Unicode U+hex notation to name just a view. Should solve most character code conversion issues for you.

Thanks to Richard Ishida at W3 for doing all the hard work for us.

Google drops translation API

Earlier this month Google officially announced that it was “deprecating,” and phasing out, its “Translate API.”

This means that website developers will no longer be able to use the code that makes Google’s translation algorithms automatically provide translated language material for other websites.

The standalone Google Translate site will remain. This allows you to enter text or URLs for translation for translation.

Google put the decision down to an overuse by Spammers of their system to translate spam and phishing emails which are sent on a regular basis around the world.

It was announced as follows:

Important: The Google Translate API has been officially deprecated as of May 26, 2011. Due to the substantial economic burden caused by extensive abuse, the number of requests you may make per day will be limited and the API will be shut off completely on December 1, 2011. For website translations, we encourage you to use the Google Translate Element.
